Scaling Stateful Services
Connection stickiness is a fundamental mechanism for increasing performance and reducing latency, but this leads to applications that become stateful in some degree.
Such applications have what is called “the data shipping paradigm” where data is requested from the backend data store for a request. In future requests, the same data is requested again irrespective of whether the request comes to the same service instance or another because the instances are stateless
Some studies indicate that need for stateful containers is rising in the enterprise world, where "the two motivations behind this interest are workload consolidation and better performance, with an 80 percent planned increase in container adoption".
